Athlone North Primary School
Our Staff Composition
The school consists of a staff of 17 educators, 15 are employed by the WCED and the other 2 are employed by the Schools Governing Body (SGB). There are 4 male educators with the rest being female. The school is also assisted by a Learning Support Educator who is a shared resource with a school in the area. The support staff consists of 2 Administrative Clerks, a General Foreman, and 2 General Cleaners. We have 2 parents who work voluntarily in the kitchen where our learners are fed 2 cooked meals per day. For most of our learners, this is the only meal they get for the day.
Senior Management Team
The Senior Management Team (SMT) is made up of the Principal, the Deputy Principal, and the two Heads of Departments (HOD) in the Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase. The SMT meets fortnightly to deal with issues of management. The HOD’s meets regularly on a Wednesday with the educators in their respective phases where they discuss and deals with matters of common interest. Grade Heads meet every Thursday to do forward planning for the following week for their respective grades.
Most of the staff belongs to professional staff associations and unions with the majority belonging to NAPTOSA and the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU)
